E3 2014: Nintendo Digital Event notes

It’s that time again.  The time that gamers mark on their calendars and wait with anticipation.  E3 baby!  Here are Nintendo’s “Digital Event” notes:

  • Started with a hilarious claymation video with Reggie.  Man was that pretty awesome.  Then it went to a fight video between Iwata and Reggie… insanity.

Super Smash Bros. (Wii U)

  • Mii’s are now playable characters (Mii Fighter)
    • Mii Brawler
    • Mii Swordfighter
    • Mii Gunner
    • 3 classes x 12 special moves = 36 total special moves to choose from
  • Mario figurine is shown off for NFC on Wii U
  • Lady Palutena (Kid Icarus) is a playable character

Super Smash Bros. (3DS)

  • Various modes shown off in trailer
  • Delayed til October 3, 2014

amiibo

  • Figurines that use the NFC on the Wii U controller
  • Can send info to and from the figure
    • Fighter statue can “evolve” and get stronger
  • Will first be used for Super Smash Bros. Wii U
  • Will also be used in Mario Kart 8
    • Details coming soon
    • Side note: they showed the Luigi death stare video… nice touch Nintendo

Yoshi’s Woolly World (Wii U)

  • Similar to Kirby’s Epic Yarn… but much, MUCH prettier
  • No time limit to each level
  • Centered around exploration
  • 2-player mode (co-op)
  • Release Date: 2015

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Wii U)

  • Short gameplay video shown
    • Looks Marioesque in nature
  • Release Date: Holiday 2014

Kind of cel shaded and kind of gorgeous

The Legend of Zelda (Wii U)

  • 3D changed the way Zelda was made… no more scrolling screens
  • Wanted to create one large world where everything was connected
  • The game is gorgeous of course
  • Doesn’t sound like this game will be linear
  • Release Date: 2015

Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire (3DS)

  • 3DS remakes of Ruby and Sapphire
  • Contains mega evolutions
  • Release Date: November 21, 2014

Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)

  • Gameplay demo shown
  • Combo system shown
  • Wii U game contains original Bayonetta as well
  • Release Date: October 2014

Hyrule Warriors (Wii U)

  • Based on the Dynasty Warriors franchise
    • Lots of enemies on screen to hack and slash through
  • Multiple playable characters
    • Link
    • Princess Zelda
    • Impa
    • Midna (Twilight Princess)
    • and more…
  • 2 players (not splitscreen… uses TV and GamePad)
  • Release Date: September 26, 2014

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (Wii U)

  • Looks like Kirby’s Canvas Curse (DS game) but for Wii U
  • Release Date: 2015

X” now named Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U)

  • Japanese trailer shown… all cinematics
  • Release Date: 2015

Mario Maker (Wii U)

  • Guess all that leaked footage of E3 was right
  • You can now create your very own Mario levels
  • Can use 8-bit art style or New Super Mario Bros. art style
  • Game looks incredibly fun
  • Release Date: 2015

Splatoon (Wii U)

  • Exclusive FPS (first person shooter) for Wii U made by Nintendo
  • 4 v 4, 8 person gameplay
  • Team who covers the map with the most ink wins
  • Uses ink as its main weapon
  • Can turn into a squid and move faster in your own ink color
    • Move slowly in opponent’s color
  • GamePad has overhead view of map and a real-time view of ink color on the map
  • Can shoot and destroy other players with the ink
  • Different types of weapons like a paint roller, rocket launcher, sniper rifle, etc.
  • Release Date: 2015
