iPhone location tracking: it's not a feature, it's a bug

Apple has released a statement around the location-tracking issue we covered last week.

Rather than the snark Apple displayed in the Antennagate issue , Apple appears to going the denial route , claiming that while they never ever ever track users, but instead are polling cell towers so that the iPhone can quickly determine its location.   Apple also claims that it did not intend the location tracking to remain on when users turn off location tracking on phones, and that the database is only supposed to retain one week of data, not all data.

For the record, Android phones have location tracking as well and Google has not commented on their location tracking.
