Microsoft development team has unofficially announced that Kinect will officially be a Windows supported device in 2012, with Windows + Kinect. That is about as smart a move as I have seen from them recently and I am stoked to see where it actually goes.
From an IT perspective and someone who has done his fair share of presentations and meetings, the idea that I could manipulate my meeting via gestures and pointing is extremely interesting. I am probably thinking somewhat ahead, but the foundation is being laid.
If Microsoft can partner with some key developers to bundle some must have apps for the PC which take advantage of the Kinect Technology, they could easily double the amount of units sold. I can easily see bundling Kinect with new PC’s sold, or even shrinking the tech and putting it into tablets and laptops integrated with webcams.
No matter how you slice it, this is great. It can only put this tech into more hands which will undoubtedly lead to more clever uses and applications which will only improve the experience for every other Kinect user.
