Square Enix has been known to make some interesting decisions but this one might irk the long-time fans of the Kingdom Hearts series. Apparently Square Enix decided that there were a lot more fractions to go around so they are delaying Kingdom Hearts 3 indefinitely to pursue additional fractions.
With the success of Kingdom Hearts 1.5, 2.5, and 2.8, Square Enix has realized that they can make fraction remix games and still make boatloads of money. All the while delaying their next major installment in the Kingdom Hearts series (3). They even tried some extreme fractions on the Nintendo DS when they released the spin-off Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days… which technically is a fraction but it becomes Kingdom Hearts 179 days if you do the math out.
Square Enix’s proposed release schedule is as follows:
- Kingdom Hearts 2.85 ~ December 2016
- Kingdom Hearts 2.90 ~ December 2017
- Kingdom Hearts 2.95 ~ December 2018
- Kingdom Hearts 2.99 ~ December 2019
- Kingdom Hearts 3 ~ ?
Let’s hope Square Enix gets around to releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 before they find other fractions to use. Won’t someone think of Sora… and Donald… and Goofy…
