Madden NFL 25 not coming to Nintendo systems

So for the first time since 1991, EA Sports has decided that it will skip Nintendo’s platforms and not release Madden NFL 25 on the Wii U or the 3DS.  The official statement from EA Sports is below:

“We will not be releasing a Wii U version of Madden NFL in 2013. However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future.”
Now I am 100% behind a company dropping a system if it doesn’t seem to be making them any money… in most cases.  The problem with dropping the Wii U and the 3DS in this case however, is the fact that EA Sports has sole exclusivity rights on the NFL license.  This monopolistic control is completely outrageous as EA can now decide which system they choose to release the only NFL-licensed game on.  There should have been a rule that if EA did not want to make an NFL game for a system then another developer should be allowed to create one instead.  As I said before, there is way too much power and control in EA’s hands and this sort of thing is terrible for consumers.  Consumers only get one NFL title a year and if they don’t like it, too bad.

I also had a laugh when I read the official statement from EA Sports, However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo”.  I find this comment to be utterly hilariously backhanded.  To say you’re not releasing one of your top franchises on Nintendo’s systems and then to say you have a strong partnership with the company you are not giving a game to is completely contradictory.  Good show EA… and people wonder why EA is the #1 Worst Company In America 2 years straight.
