In what might be considered one of the crazier PR stunts I have seen, EA has decided it would launch copies of Mass Effect 3 into space attached to weather balloons . The games will be launched starting next week and anyone who finds the games when they finally land will get a copy of the game a week early. The games will be launched from New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris. The weather balloons will also have GPS tracking capability so that fans can track the balloons soon on the official Mass Effect website . Look for the games to either a) not work upon descent due to environmental damage or b) get sold for thousands of dollars on eBay... or both.
The boards are already starting the jokes about this event and I'll share a couple with you now: "I used to run every day, then I took a copy of Mass Effect 3 to the knee." "All my years of Duck Hunt training has prepared me for this day." "Half of these will end up in the Atlantic Ocean, or cause a 30 car pile-up with about 200 dead gamers who all tracked the same copy of the game." "Imagine tracking the game across the state and realizing the copy is for a system you don't own." "Space is a much better distribution service than Origins is."
