Nintendo Direct coverage (5/17/13)

Satoru Iwata is back with another Nintendo Direct.  I was curious what more would Nintendo show at this point since they have some announcements planned for E3 in less than a month.  Luckily there is some interesting news here with some stuff that is catering specifically to me… Shining Force: Sword of Hajya is coming to 3DS eShop as well as a low joint purchase price for The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages.  Don’t let me ruin all the surprises… read on for more!

Mario vs. Sonic at the Olympic Games (tentative title) (Wii U)

  • Located in Sochi in southern Russia
  • Enhanced graphics
  • Created by SEGA
  • Skiing, snowboarding, curling, biathlon, hockey, bobsledding, and figure skating pairs are amongst the events
  • For curling you can draw on the tablet to show your strategy to your teammates
  • Launch date TBD

Sonic: Lost World

  • Action/Adventure platformer exclusive for Nintendo
  • Coming to Nintendo Wii U and 3DS

  • Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move
  • Available now on the 3DS eShop
  • Level creation is an easy drag and drop interface
  • Created levels will be sharable with the public

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS)

  • New levels are based on each world
  • Available on May 24th at retail and on the 3DS eShop

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

  • Available on June 9th at retail and on the 3DS eShop
  • Video series released to promote the game by Treehouse on http://www.youtube.com/nintendo
  • StreetPass Mii Plaza has a special puzzle and Swapnote is getting a special message

Game & Wario (Wii U)

  • Island is playable by 2-5 players that you use the GamePad to launch the “Fronks” onto a target
  • Patchwork requires you to use the tablet to complete challenges.  Tests visual recognition
  • Auto-jumping game involving Cricket using tablet and screen to jump your way through the course while filling up on dumplings
  • Available on June 23rd at retail and on the Wii U eShop ($39.99)

Resident Evil: Revelations (Wii U)

  • Updated graphics, new content, and new difficulty mode (Infernal)
  • Infernal difficulty places enemies in new spots
  • Added Hunk and Rachel to Raid Mode
  • Can view map and switch items without interrupting play on GamePad.  Can play whole game on the GamePad as well.
  • Available on May 21st at retail and on the Wii U eShop

New Super Luigi U (Wii U)

  • Can play multiplayer as Luigi, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, and Nabbit
  • Nabbit was a character you chase throughout some levels in New Super Mario Bros. U
  • Nabbit is invulnerable to enemy damage for people who find the game difficult
  • Available on June 20th as DLC if you own New Super Mario Bros. U ($19.99)
  • Will also be released as a stand-alone title on August 25th ($29.99)

The Wonderful 101 (Wii U)

  • Available on September 15

Pikmin 3 (Wii U)

  • 3 new main characters (Alph, Brittany, and Captain Charlie)
  • Characters planet is facing doomsday and needs help to survive
  • Mission is to collect fruit as a food resource.  Need food to create juice to survive
  • Can only explore from dawn to dusk
  • Can use all 3 characters to tackle different areas of the map
  • Can reply the day or an earlier day if you have issues
  • No maximum day limitation as in the first Pikmin game
  • GamePad becomes the “KopPad”.  Shows map and where everything is located and see a reply of the entire day
  • Game can control with GamePad, Wii U pro controller, and Wii Remote and Nunchuck controls
  • Can play entire game on GamePad with or without Wii Remote and Nunchuck
  • Available on August 4th

Reggie talks E3

  • No new hardware at E3… just software
  • “Making E3 for the people”
  • Partnering with Best Buy to allow fans to experience unreleased Wii U games
