Nintendo goes all digital for Elite Prizes in 2014

So to say I’m a little disappointed in Nintendo’s Club Nintendo Elite Prize efforts this year would be a pretty accurate statement.  I think the platinum prizes over the last couple of years were pretty cool whether it be the statue or the special posters.  This year, for gold and platinum prizes, you have your choice of a game.  The sad reality of it is that many of you probably bought a lot of these games to get the platinum or gold status… and the ones you didn’t buy, you probably didn’t want.

I guess you can’t really complain about a free game, but when you spend a lot of money throughout the year expecting something as cool as the previous years, being given a choice of games you already own or don’t really care to own really kind of takes the wind out of your sails.  The only plus side I can see is that you can get your downloadable game immediately instead of waiting until December like with the physical prizes.

I may go with Game & Wario just because of the lack of a better choice.  I would rather get EarthBound, but it seems silly to get an old Virtual Console game (albeit an awesome one), as my free game.  Decisions, decisions… (Editor’s update: I went with EarthBound.  I would rather have an amazing old game over an OK new game any day).

Regardless, you have to make your choice by August 15, 2014, 11:59 PM PT (August 16, 2014, 2:59 AM ET).  Here is a list of the selections:
