Retro games with achievements

So I must give credit where credit is due on this one.  IGN actually came up with a video recently titled “What If Retro Games Had Achievements?” (embedded at the end of the article).  I thought it was fairly funny but what if the games had REAL achievements that were really challenging accomplishments?  I came up with a list below to get us started but I’m sure you folks can come up with some additional ones (feel free to in the comments).  Without further adieu, here we go:

NES

Battletoads: Beat the game without Game Genie (let’s be honest that game is impossible even with Game Genie)

Blades of Steel: Score 15 points in a game

Contra: Beat the game without the Konami Code

Final Fantasy: Beat the game with 4 characters of the same class

Ghosts ‘n Goblins: Get the “true” final battle (beat the game twice)

Kid Icarus: Beat each boss without getting any Centurions

The Legend of Zelda: Get to Ganon without picking up a sword

Mega Man 1-6: Defeat each robot boss with Mega Buster ONLY

Ninja Gaiden: Beat the game using a DDR pad as your controller (ok that’s a joke, just beating the game with a normal controller is hard enough)

Punch Out!: Beat the game without using a super uppercut (star punch)

River City Ransom: Beat the game without taking any order “to go” (no healing outside of town)

Super Mario Bros.: Beat the game without using a warp pipe

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Beat the game with all four turtles alive/”uncaught”

Top Gun: Land the plane successfully

Just for fun here are some for a couple Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis titles:

SNES

Chrono Trigger: Get every possible ending

The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past: Beat the game and collect all the heart pieces

Lethal Enforcers: Beat the game without shooting a hostage

Super Mario Kart: Beat 150cc Special Cup with each character

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars: Beat the game without the Lazy Shell equipment

Super Mario World: Beat the game including the Special World

Sega Genesis

Golden Axe: Beat the game without riding a dragon or a chicken leg

Phantasy Star IV: Beat the game without using any combination attacks

Sonic (any): Beat bosses without having a ring to survive (1-hit death)
