These two games have been recently announced, and we now have videos of each to compare.
Having owned multiple iterations of each game, I was curious to see what was being brought to the table this year...
GH:WoR has a new Guitar design , that will allow you to purchase different, swappable body styles. Gone is the touchpad (Why?), and now you can $buy$ different styles? Whoopie.
RB3 has added the Harmonies ability from The Beatles and Green Day, allowing up to 3 people to sing on harmonies. RB3 has also added a keyboard. This is no gimmiky, slapped together keytar, it has 25 keys (real, can be used as a Midi keyboard), with the corresponding colors over sections of the keys. The gameplay looks amazing, but we will cover more in the Features section. RB3 also announced that new guitars, and drums will be coming, but are not necessary for the new features, again read on... This means that a total of 7 people can now play a role in Rock Band 3.
GH:WoR - From the video, it appears the main selling point of this sixth release in this franchise is the ability to change your character into... vampires, werewolves, and zombies. Apparently, transforming into the warriors allows you to score higher, and unlock more powers.
RB3 - Where to start? New ways to sort and find your music (over 2000 songs expected by the end of the year). New ability to jump from instrument to instrument, or difficulties, or in or out of the songs, on the fly. No more having to back out to the menu to add/remove a singer, this can all be done mid-song.
Perhaps the biggest new feature is called Pro Mode. Good bye colors (shout out to Justin!), hello actual musical notes (keyboard), or tabs for the guitar. You can learn the actual music you are playing, note for note. Pro mode can be used on any level (Easy-Expert), and can be mixed with musicians playing the standard Arcade mode. The new guitar and drums mentioned above are much more realistic (read $$$) including real strings, frets and cymbals.
GH:WoR - turn into a zombie.
RB3 - Play any instrument in a 7 player band, and learn real music. Just watch that video.
I can't wait to see what Activision does to the Halo franchise.
