One of our favorite news and review hubs for games, tech, comics, movies and more, Whiskey Media, has made some earth shattering announcements regarding it’s sale today to BermanBraun , a Santa Monica-based entertainment and interactive production company. The sale has landed three of the sites with BermanBraun: Tested, Screened and Anime Vice. GiantBomb and ComicVine have joined Gamespot.
My initial reaction was absolutely one of concern. These types of purchases and moves seldom allow the site to maintain the creativity that made them so great. In true GiantBomb fashion, the founders sat down over some Pancakes and reassured everyone via realtime chat and questions that this was a really positive move. They openly discussed their future, how they will integrate with and work alongside GameSpot as this all unfolds. After watching the entire video I felt much better. Having followed these guys since they started, I believe they are making smart decisions and that they are being honest when they say this is good. I do not believe they are putting on a smoke and mirrors show to hide some bad happenings.
Not to be outdone, Will and Norm at Tested announced that they will be working with the guys at Mythbusters, Adam and Jamie. Frankly, that is downright awesome for them. They are smart creative guys and I expect those four to work brilliantly together.
I am genuinely excited and happy for all involved. I look forward to what will come of these new relationships and we will be sure to keep you all posted as more details emerge. I am sure it will make PAX exciting!
UPDATE: There is a great interview at Games Industry International with Jeff Gerstman from Giant Bomb and John Davidson at Gamepsot discussing their future, their goals and their rivals. Check it out.
