wii-con-51

...And why wasn't someone fired for the name?  To be honest not many still know what the Wii U (previously codenamed Project Cafe) really is.  However, what we do know is that the Wii U is a brand new 1080p Wii console with a highly innovative controller.  The controller is shown above.

e3

So IGN inspired me today as they posted an article about their E3 predictions for the big 3 companies.  It got me thinking and I had a couple predictions of mine own.  Some reasonable, some far-fetched.

It all started while I was going through the scheduling for Saturday at PAX, while looking through all the potential panels I may be interested in. And then I see it, two panels with a feminist theme; Females on Female Characters and The "Other" Us: If We're All Gamers, Does Our Gender Matter?

Both of these seem to be talking about the same thing, the “F” word being thrown around in the gaming community and how females react to the more eccentric female characters.

3DS-Hands-On

Some folks who know me consider me to be a Nintendo fanboi.  I will accept that title as I have grown up and owned pretty much every Nintendo system in existence (minus the failure that was Virtual Boy).  Being a fanboi makes my opinion seem biased, however, I’m sure you know that being a fan of something also makes you super critical of that something as well.  With that, let’s begin on our trip through the world of 3D gaming without glasses…

The bleary-eyed are walking around, people are sleeping on benches, the exhibitors are looking worn - it must be Sunday at PAXEast.

We had a blast at the Saturday night concert.  All three acts were fabulous, as well as round 3 of the Omegathon.  Concert got out around 1:45 (2:45 with DST) and I felt super-sorry for the folks in the cab line.

Our resident photographer, Jared, has captured a lot of good photographs of stuff going on here as well as some excellent cosplay.  We hope to have some photos up soon.

One simple recommendation - if you love being a geek, at whatever level you are - you owe it to yourself to come to PAX.  I feel so jazzed about who I am and what I do right now.

We're back for day II of PAXEast, and while we were a little panel-crazy yesterday, today we've been hitting the exhibit hall and having a little more relaxing day.

Everyone's raving about the 3DS - looks like it will definitely be a hit.

We're currently waiting for the RoosterTeeth panel - supposed to see three new videos today.

If you're not interested in overpaying for food just because you're at the BCEC, there's a couple options for you in the area. This isn't an exhaustive list but should help.

Our PAXEast experience started off with me rolling up to Justin’s place at 6:30 a.m., Dunkin Donuts coffee in hand and a little bleary-eyed.  We quickly got on the highway and had a pretty good commute until Medford, where we crawled the rest of the way into the city.  It was a grey foggy morning – we couldn’t see the tops of the buildings as we emerged from the underground portion of I-93 into the Financial district.  We found some parking that favored convenience over value and ventured forth into the fog towards the barely visible outline of the BCEC.  As we crossed the large pedestrian bridge we began to hear cheering and knew that we had arrived at the right place.  We crossed Summer Street just as the doors opened and saw a line of thousands snaking its way at a pretty brisk pace into the convention center.

I was really jazzed about seeing the keynote, so I went straight to the line for the main hall while Justin and Jarod hit the swag line.  While in line I got to chat with some nice guys who had made the trip down from Toronto for the con.  This was their first PAX and I tried to fill them in on what PAXEast had been like last year and what they could expect.  After a long wait, we finally made our way into the main theater for the Keynote.

PAXEast has sold out, in spite of its move to a bigger venue at the Boston Convention Center.  Here are some last-minute reminders from the PAX folks themselves:

Is PAX East really this week? That doesn’t seem right, but the countdown clock DOES NOT LIE. We have a ton of important info for you, so I’ll cut to the chase:
  • As a reminder, we moved venues. PAX East at the BCEC and NOT the Hynes.
  • The center will open at 8 AM each morning for those that want to arrive early.
  • You can queue at any of the theatres in the morning, not just at the expo hall like in previous years.
  • As mentioned above, we’re sold out of badges. We will not sell any at the show. There are no more available. Please do not email us asking if this is a real thing. It is real. I’m serious.
  • The venue is in the middle of nowhere and finding places to eat will be tough, so we’ve worked closely with the center to create a giant food court in Hall C. It will be open as long as PAX is.
  • There are no wristbands for the concerts this year. It’s first come first serve for the Friday and Saturday night concerts. You are able to lineup as early as 4 PM for those.
  • For those that cannot get into the concerts, they, as well as most of our main theatre content, will be shown in Room 253 as well!
  • We have two PAX stores. One in the North Lobby and one on the expo floor. Show exclusives are the PAX East 2011 Scarf and Tee Shirt!
  • DAYLIGHT SAVINGS IS ON SATURDAY NIGHT. SPRING. FORWARD.

Don’t forget your badges! If you have any questions, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Thanks!
