In an interesting interview with chief game designer, Todd Howard, Howard admitted that Bethesda knew about the PS3 lag issues before the game was released but stated they could fix the issues later.  Here is the quote from the Kotaku article: "Howard said his developers knew that the PS3 was going to run into a "bad memory situation" and tried to tweak their code to prevent it from happening.  He believes only "a small percentage" of gamers would run into these issues, but it was enough for Bethesda to want to fix things post-release."  Read on for more.

Blizzard announced that Blizzcon for 2012 has been cancelled. They are citing the reason behind the decision as being determined to focus on their game development. I hear that reason and appreciate the concern for their development process, but Blizzard is not exactly known for being a stickler for timelines. I believe there is more to this announcement and I think it might be complex, but good news.

For those of you that took my advice and checked out Club Nintendo, you are going to be extremely happy.  The site is currently down and word on the street is it is being updated to offer games for coins.  According to IGN, Club Nintendo will be offering the following games to start:

  • Super Mario Kart: 100 coins
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again: 150 coins
  • 3D Classics: Xevious: 100 coins
  • Fluidity: 150 coins

It's nice to see that you can get more than just souvenirs for coins now and here's hoping for some more selection down the road.  We'll see when the site comes back online if the rumors are true... I'm pretty sure they are!

According to GamePro.com, GamePro, which has become a quarterly magazine as of this point, will be consumed into PCWorld and will no longer exist as a separate entity.  This is the quote from GamePro's website:

Thank you for your loyalty, support, and participation in the GamePro.com community. At noon on December 5, 2011, the U.S. version of GamePro online will shut down as an independent site. GamePro will become part of PCWorld.com (http://www.pcworld.com/gamepro) offering gaming news, reviews, and how-tos from the PCWorld team. Thank you to the entire GamePro staff for their hard work and dedication.

This isn't really the biggest surprise since magazine sales have generally been declining due to the presence of gaming websites.  I remember reading GamePro as a kid and remember the little face icon they used for their review system.  Here's hoping the employees land on their feet at PCWorld.

Claptrap

Destructoid reports that Gearbox Entertainment recently did a solid for one of its fans in memory of another fan.

A gamer wrote to Gearbox saying that his recently deceased friend Michael had been a huge Borderlands fan and requesting a short eulogy be read by Claptrap, the game's snarky robot.  Gearbox did them one better by saying that Michael would be memorialzed in Borderlands 2 as an NPC.  The message from Gearbox is available on the Destructoid site, we can't link it here.  Good on Gearbox for understanding that the fans are their bread and butter.

Sorry to re-use a gag, but I couldn't resist.

We reported earlier that two Mega Man games had been cancelled by Capcom, much to the dismay of fans of the character.  Destructoid holds out some hope, however, quoting Capcom's Christian Svensson:

"The frustrating thing for me is I have nothing I can hold up and say, 'Oh, here’s this other Mega Man thing.' Absolutely, we have other things ... Mega Man is a very important brand to Capcom... We get questions [like] 'Are you guys trying to kill the brand?' No, absolutely not. It will continue to be a very important brand for us. I wish I had something I could hold and display for you that that’s the case, but I don’t right now. But super, super important to us; I do want to express that.”

So don't despair just yet Mega Man fans!
