Notch recently gave an eight minute demonstration on the 1.8 patch for Minecraft, currently referred to as the Adventure Update. He details the majority of the new features as well as talks about how the update will be released and some of the feature implementation.
As a requirement of being an LGOD writer I must live/love Minecraft and as such I have high expectations for this patch. Some of the features are adapted from some of the more popular mods as I mentioned previously and some of the features are original ones that have been teased by @notch for quite some time.
The key take aways from the video are:
- New enemy, the Endermen... do NOT look directly at them... they can teleport
- Monster spawns are more common
- You have a hunger bar and will need to eat, with a fancy new eating animation
- New biomes and world features such as ravines and rivers
- Combat has been greatly enhanced to include critical hits and knockback
- You will now be able to sprint for limited amounts of time
- Dungeons will spawn with high monster concentrations
- You now gain experience orbs from killing monsters, though implementation of the levelling system will be in a second patch
- Towns with NPC’s can spawn within the world
- Creative mode will allow unlimited access to items and blocks and the ability to fly when building your masterpiece
So many blocks to dig, so little time..... ssssssSSSSSSSSSSSTTTT......
