Uncharted 3 has a tough goal to reach. It needs to meet or exceed the bar set for it by its predecessor. From the reviews it did just that. It delivers amazing visuals, a fantastic narrative, great puzzles and amazing environments. Nathan Drake and the team he commands at Naughty Dog have once again set the bar for action gaming. Don’t take my word for it; see what these other reviewers have to say.

PSN

Sony has endured multiple class-action lawsuits since the launch of the Playstation 3, the most notable of which are the lawsuits from users impacted by the PSN data breach earlier this year.  Sony has decided to take a novel approach to dealing with the ill will that drives users to sue - in the latest mandatory PSN update, users sign away their right to sue Sony if they accept the TOS.

The internet is abuzz with Sony's announcement at the end of its Gamescom 2011 keynote that it was dropping the price of the Playstation 3 to $249.  As well, Sony announced an Infamous 2 bundle that includes the game and a 320GB PS3.

As irritated as I have been with Sony recently, this price point is very tempting.  Will I have to eat my words?

I have known for some time that the Uncharted series was slated to be a movie. And I feel that it has good potential to be great. The Uncharted franchise is rich with good content and interesting characters, and is very reminiscent of the Indiana Jones franchise. And like the Indiana Jones franchise, its success is mainly due to its central character, Nathan Drake (it is no coincidence that his personality is based on Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis). So it goes without saying that the actor chosen for the role of Drake needs to be very good fit. For a period of time, it looked as if Mark Wahlberg was slated to be Drake, but recent events have reset everything, including who is to play Drake. And for a large part of us fans of the series, this is good news. Why? Well because in a good amount of our opinions, there is only one actor best suited for Drake’s role: Nathan Fillion. There are a lot of good reasons for this choice and I feel that Todd Kenreck covered them well in his video post on Wednesday. So I am just going to give you that video here...

PSN_Pass

According to IGN, Sony is going to be following in EA's footsteps and launching a PSN Pass for its online games, starting with Resistance 3.  For folks not familiar with these passes, they are basically a deterrent for anyone to buy the game used as you cannot play online without an online pass (which only comes with a new game purchase).  If you buy the game used and want to play online, you need to purchase a pass from Sony (or EA depending on the game) for $10 and then you can play the used game online.  Will this affect Resistance 3's sales?  Only time will tell...

Via Destructoid, we found this great video about Jaap, a 66-year-old Dutch man who is probably the world's oldest Battlefield gamer.  Jaap's squad put the video above together as a great tribute to the idea of being young at heart.  Jaap has some pretty good moves as well.  It also makes the point that gamers are more than malajusted kids hiding in their parents' basement.

My favorite quote from the interview:  "First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for their kind words, nice messages and support. If I could, I would be a Grandpa to every single one of you!."

Unfortunately Jaap games on PSN, so he had to deal with being unable to hang out with his squad for a month and someone is probably using his credit card information right now, but if you want to add him his PSN name is ADHD_WACKO_JACKO.

Engadget is reporting that PSN has disabled logins after realizing an oversight could allow accounts to be hacked.

The reason for disabling logins is that the current account password recovery process for PSN requires the user's date of birth and email address, both of which were among the data exposed in the original PSN hack.  Therefore anyone with access to the data could request a password reset and gain access to a user's account.

I imagine Yakkety Sax is on constant repeat at PSN headquarters.

PSN

Sony has been in the headlines quite often nowadays and with very good reason.  However, it seems as though Sony is going to be starting up a "Welcome Back" appreciation program when the service is completely restored (TBD).  To see what is in store for PS3 and PSP owners, click on over to the Playstation blog or read more...

Reports abound that Sony has brought the PSN back up in North America.  SOE game services are being restored as well.  PSN was brought back up in rolling starts across North America Saturday evening.

Concurrent with the restoration of PSN services is a firmware update for the Playstation 3, and changing your password is strongly recommended.

Welcome back to online gaming, Playstation owners!

Retailers dealing in used and trade-in games are reporting (unfortunately only one willing to go on the record about it) that, due to the extended PSN outage, they are seeing players trading in their Playstation 3 consoles in exchange for XBox360 consoles.

Apparently the source of the trade-ins is the hardcore online player crowd, those whose bread-and-butter are Call of Duty. One retailer stated that all their trade-ins were due to one of the games in the CoD franchise.

I'm a little amazed that people are so addicted to their online shooters that they'd trade in a whole console in order to get their fix.  I mean, the 360 doesn't have a Blu-Ray drive, after all - can't you go a few weeks without spawn-camping?
