Local game developer 38Studios announced their first title at San Diego Comic Con last week. Called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, the game is a single-player RPG. I am interested in the game as 38Studios owner Curt Schilling has been a big MMO player since the days of Everquest, and the game has had R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane as creative consultants.

Soon after the announcement of Amalur, 38Studios also announced it had received $75 million in loan guarantees from the state of Rhode Island and would move its headquarters to the state from their current Maynard MA location. The announcement has been controversial as politicians from both states seek to win favor with voters by criticizing the move. 38 Studios says the move will enable them to create 450 jobs in Rhode Island, and as long as those jobs are net new jobs, then anything that creates jobs in an industry that is under-represented in New England sounds like a good idea to me.
