Following hot on the heels of the Google/Motorola deal, HTC has announced the official bootloader unlock process on it’s Facebook page. The free offering from HTC allows users the ability to ‘safely’ unlock their bootloader on their HTC Android phone but does not come free of risk. You will be forced to acknowledge that you could be voiding some or all of your warranty by going through with the process.

As a previous rooted Droid owner I am excited and just may take the plunge again on my Thunderbolt. After unlocking the Droid bootloader and rooting my phone I was able to increase the battery life by nearly 75%, remove any preinstalled apps that I had no need for and move all applications to my SD card to be backed up and keep my phone storage clean.

Updates will be rolling out in August starting with the Sensation and Sensation 4G on T-Mobile followed by the EVO 3D on Sprint. For full details hit up HTC’s Facebook page and prepare to void your warranty so you can get the phone experience you actually paid for.
