itunes-102-03-02-2011

Reuters is reporting that Apple is planning to launch a cloud-based music service to compete with Amazon's cloud service and Google's upcoming cloud service.  Apple recently purchased a massive North Carolina data center, and speculations are that the data center will be used for media delivery, both for music and movies.  Apparently Apple is negotiating deals with record companies in advance of its service, contrasted with Amazon's "We don't need no licenses" approach.  Apple's tactics may be why Amazon decided to plow ahead, trying to get mindshare in advance of the Apple juggernaut, which will more than likely show up as a part of iTunes.
