The Spring 2011 Sandvine Global Internet Phenomena report reveals that, for the first time, Netflix is the single largest component of North American internet traffic. Netflix accounts for 30% of internet traffic during peak hours and 22.2% of daily traffic. Sandvine is predicting that streaming media (Netflix, Hulu, and other media on demand services) will occupy 55% of North American peak traffic by the end of the year. The cynical side of me says "expect lots of stories about traffic shaping and bandwidth caps by the end of the year."
