sundayticket

Giant Bomb's Patrick Klepek has a write up on the experience of trying to use NFL's Sunday Ticket on the Playstation 3.

For those of you not familiar with Sunday Ticket, it is part of a number of sports packages offered by the major American leagues with all-you-can-eat football coverage - every game.  The packages are popular with individuals who live out-of-market or live in a market with a team that often gets overshadowed by another team - for example, a Philadelphia Eagles fan who lives in Denver.  They can be quite costly, but when the alternative is going to a sports bar and spending three hours a week buying drinks and appetizers, it's relatively inexpensive.

However, when it fails to work, it can be extremely frustrating, as you watch a blank screen as your money goes down the drain.

Klepek found that the launch experience left a lot to be desired.  Many users had issues, Twitter was lit up, and DirecTV stalled but didn't deliver until the second set of Sunday's games.  Apparently in the aftermath there was a lot of buck passing, with DirecTV directing customers to Sony and vice versa.

The government has been running Operation In Our Sites to try to combat movie piracy and online streaming of sports; however, when companies fail to partner properly on their "official" offerings, are they really surprised when people go to illicit means to obtain the entertainment they want to enjoy?
